i just got a 12 inch blue streak glasspack installed on my 84 bronco. i wanted that exhaust sound without the price but i didnt want the raspy noise from not having a muffler at all. i think it has a nice tone but is there any way to make it louder. it still just seems a little too quiet. other than that i like it, its hard to hear but the tone is definatly there and i like it, sounds good. i also notice a little better gas milage since theres less backpressure on the engine.
also, i know i have 2 cats, one has been replaced by the previous owner and on the other one, the honey comb material stuff thats inside is falling apart, its slightly blocking the pipe and its causing poor gas milage as well. is there an easier/cheaper fix than buying a new one for a couple hundred?

If your Cat is a flange type (bolted in, not welded). you can take it off and knock the catalist out with a rod and hammer. It will breakup in chunks, and you just shake it out. This will also make your truck louder(if your cat is breaking up, your pipe may be clogged). Check your local laws, some states don't require mufflers on a truck, as long as the Cats are functional.
I would keep the Cats functional though...I enjoy breathing my Oxygen without having to chew it up first.
Thanks to 15" subwoofers, and 1000 watt amps......my county has a noise ordinence, and glass paks will get you a $250 ticket.

Well I have true duals with no cats and it has an alright sound. But the reason your truck isn't that loud is cause of those cats. Anything with cats won't be as loud as they can be. I know that im waiting untill the end of july to put glasspacks on my truck cause by then ill be moving to a bigger city and they won't care as much about exhaust.

well my tags arent due till 05 and by then i'll just have the bronco as a toy so would it be best if i just got rid of both cats? is there a place that would even do that or is it better that i just use a hacksaw and do it myself? if i do that is there a limit on how short the pipe can be as far as the engine functioning properly?
when my rpms are at about 3000+ i get this noise from the engine. i know its the engine itself but its almost like a waterfall kinda noise, i can hear it really well when im next to something and the sound bounces off, (like a car or wall). lately ive even heard it at lower rpms but much quieter. is this because of the bad cat?

If it were me I would just get rid of the cats, but then again thats me and I don't have to worrie about not having them. All cats do is restrict horse power, but all you need to do is go down to a local shop pick up some pipe and ubolts cut out the cats and put in the pipe not very hard at all.

As for the noise I'm not sure what that would be, kinda sounds like it would be exhaust to me. But if your cats are blocking the pipe i would defiantly eather cut them out or replace them beacuse all it is doing is making your engine work harder to get the exhaust out, so that means more heat/backpressure witch causes loss of gas milage and performance.

It doesn't look like this comment will be very popular, but you will probably have to do the job yourself as it is illegal to remove the cats. They do serve an environmental pourpose beside restrict horsepower. One of the problems we big truck owners have with the environmentalists is polution. That is why they are always trying to get legislation thru that is an attempt to take you off the road and put your truck in the junk yard.
I for one am for keeping my truck and making it comply to the rules that were aplicable to the year engine installed. Then when I get into it with me3 tree hugging brother-in-law, I have a leg to stand on in that I probably do more to make my truck environmentaly acceptable than he does with his junky Toyota truck that ge3t5s better milage while spewing out more nitrus oxide than mine does.
Doing stuff like removing the cats just gives them amunition against you.

i understand that the cats are there for an enviormental reason. The glasspack i have isnt really suiting my needs. if i were to replace it with a flowmaster muffler and keep the stock pipes would that make a difference at all or would i haf to go with the bigger pipe diameter to get a true sound?

your best bet if the cats are like you said. go to a muffler shop and drop the two factory cats and replace with a single aftermarket high flow cat. If your not getting any sound with the 12" glasspack a flowmaster won't sound either.
I got custom true duels on my 86 302EFI with factory size 2 1/4" pipe 12" packs and 3 1/2" tips. I can set alarms off a good ways off with easy. it's much more louder then my 79 duel 2 1/2" pipe (no cats) 40S flowmasters and 3 1/2" tips.
The single free flow cat will keep you in smog laws and allow you the sound your after. Look on like www.summitracing.com The aftermarket cats ain't as high as most seem. Even adding Tips will give a better sound.

i was at a friends today and we were looking at his 82 camero. he took off the cat and left it. it had a badass sound. im wondering if i were to cut off the bad cat (the one thats falling apart) and replace it with pipe. would it sound a little more decent? better yet, if i take off both cats do u think a muffler shop would add pipe for me so i get use of my glasspack so it doesnt go to waste just sittin there on the end of the pipe?

My guess would be, NO. Muffler shops a very leery about breaking Federal law. 
If you must do away with the CATS, weld the pipe in yourself, or use "U-BOLTS".
If you use U-Bolts.....use 2 on each end, place them 180 deg to each other as U-Bolts are notorious for leaking.

Well i now a buddy of mine that has a 2002 Ford f-150 with the 5.4L running true duals with only 2 1/2 pipe to the back and only running cats, and his truck is Insanely LOUD! for only running cats I really like the sound his truck gives off. You could go this route as well.

yeah but i wanted to make use of the new 12" pack that i have on there. so im thinking about getting a high flow cat but i was looking at it and the second cat is tucked in above the skidplate. also, it sits about 4 inches higher than the first cat because the pipe curves upward to clear the plate. does this mean that the high flow cat would bend to match the piping or would there jsut be extra pipe to replace one of the lost cats. also, i have single exhaust. how would the single sound with just the cats?

Well im not sure how that cat situatuon would work out, but as for the sound it won't be very loud at all beacuse of the single exhaust.
