I finally got the "Casual Mudder" inspected today. I was afraid the "shaker" kit wouldn't pass, so I re-installed the factory hood. I used the stock air cleaner hosuing to make my adapter, so I'm just using the old open-element K&N. That usually won't pass either, but the guy was more worried about the brakes being wet from all of the rain this morning. Said. "if I can get in it to drive around the block, you're fine!". Got a new sticker!!!

Anyway, I visited with the dude for about an hour, he's an avid tractor puller and mud racer., Has a 500+HP 351C for sale that I need to drop into the Bronco!!!! Talked to him about his 72 EB that got stuck, once, the lift kit on my Bronco, muddin' and other stuff. Cool dude!!!

While we don't have smog testing, we're close enough to Houston where they do that it is very tough to get inspected. Aside from the normal things like blinkers, brake lights, license plate light, most shops pop the hood and check for all of the smog equipment and even a heat riser tube. I've been rejected for too small of a steering wheel (14" Grant instead of 15"stock), cracked windshield, and other B.S. at other places in the past.

I won't say where this guy is at or the name of his business, but I take all of my rigs to him.

I plan to be at the next mud run, Kyle. I'm having some work done to my Z-71, too. It might be race-ready by then? I want to run them against each other to see which is the baddest. The Z is going to "sound" better, anyway! :-$

I won't be at the races THIS Saturday, but the next time. My band is playing in Wharton at the Freedom Festival. We are donating our time (and $1000) to families of soldiers that are in Iraq from the local area. Go USA :)>-

My band is called "Dulwich Fox" and I am the soundman. I do this and two other jobs parttime, along with my two businesses. Got to pay for my mods somehow!!! There are folks that need the $$$ more than me, so that's why our band is donating our proceeds this Saturday.

Here in WV they are tough too Had to put the exhaust over the axle and out due to the fact it wasn't a pick up(state inspection), that sucks!!! I like it short and loud. Lets people know you are there. They seem to run better(got to get it in fast, squeeze it tight and get it out faster to make horse power.

yeah, the state of Maryland has to be the worst inspection state ever... 60 bucks for a guaranteed fail unless your car is brand spanking new (i failed for wiper blades on all my cars), and if you go for a reinspection within 30 days or 1000 miles they'll only inspect the fail points.. but once it's inspected it's inspected for the lifetime of your ownership

MD is one of the top 3 stiffest states in the country

NH is lienent though..

sounds like where you are sucks for inspections

This may sound like an editorial, so take it with a grain of salt. I can see where a car that has worn rings and seals that blows out so much blue smoke that you think it's spraying for skeeters should not pass, but what's the deal with the license plate light??? It's true that a busted windshield with the spider web effect can limit visiblilty, but one single crack??? The biggest pet peave down here is the heat riser tube from the exhaust to the air cleaner. I think my engine runs better with the open air filter than the stock one, but I've been rejected too many times to list for that one reason. Come on people, the truck is 20+ years old. most of the OEM smog equipment doesn't even work any more. The charcoal canisters have spiders living in them. I don't want to pollute the air any more than the next guy, but I do value my safety as well as others on the road. I at least want my brakes and turn signals to work, which they do, and that horn is a critical feature. Oh yeah, worn wiper blades are a safety hazzard, so I'll be replacing those every month since they wear out so fast. Right!!! [Rant]
