I have a 1987 bronco with external style locking hubs similar to those found on 4X4 Rangers and Explorers.
I was interested in finding out if it is possible to swap over to internal style locking hubs like on the F-150's and Broncos???

Your swap is completely understandable. Those hat-style hubs found on the 87-8 years are about as undesirable as running a 208 Tcase with 38" tires. For you to change to the better hubs, you'll need everything from the knuckles out - knuckles, spindles, hubs, rotors, and lockout hub dials. If you go that far, I fully recommend installing all new ball joints, axle hub bearings and seals
