The 4x4 will be better as long as you have it in 4wd, using a 4x4 in 2wd offroad will not do as good as a 2wd offroad.

off-road...does that also include sand..a 2wd with a locker is prolly the worst for off-roading in sand

Lockers aren't a good choice for a road vehicle unless you get the type that can be manually disengaged. Also they tend to be noisy and can cause you to fishtail on slipery corners. They are great for traction in slow activities like off road, but if you were planning off road with the truck and no 4WD
?
Good luck,

Its what u want /need . A 4x2 will get better MPG and with a good limited slip will be ok to get around in . I know people who will own nothing else and they get to work in snow just like me .
But for cost vrs cost get the 4x4 .

The best/most fun is having a locked 2wd but being able to engage 4x4 when you need it.
