Hi all,
I have a 1985 Ford F-350 4X4 Dually with 4:11's for gear ratio, and I tore the rear out last week(ring and pinion),and I need to fix A.S.A.P.Im almost 100% sure it's a Dana 70 but how do I make sure it's not a Sterlin?Thier was no tag on the rear cover. The truck was painted or I would get the axel code off the door jam.Any help or what to look for's would be great.Thank you.I took a better at the ring gear, and it has the ford logo stamped in it with a 410 # right behind it,and the a # starting with E5.......Does this help in anyway figuring out if it's a sterlin 10.25 rear or a Dana 70.

"E5" is just the beginning of the factory Ford part number.... it is a year code.
"E" is the 80's, and the 5 is for , well, 5. So you have a 1985 part.
Call your local Ford dealer with the whole part number, they should be able to tell you what diff you have from it.

I got the door jam paint off,and the axel code is 65.The whole # on the ring gear is (FORD)410 E5TW-DA-1041-85E,and the pinion gear has the fallowing #DAMA-8T,and on the shaft of the pinion gear it has the #5tw DA-10-4-8gC.It's a 1985 F350 4x4 Dually, and the tran's code is P ,and the spring code is T5.The rear end look's alot differant from the 1985 Dana 70 rear I have out of a truck laying on the ground. The one in the truck has like a lip all the way around the front of the housing.I'm really leaning on it's a 10.25,or Sterlin.Any Idea's????I hate ordering the wrong part's,and hope to get it right the 1st time.Thank you for any out out on this.

Up till 86 any way, that code stood for Dand 4.56 rear end.

Good luck,

:)>-

It is the origanal rearend, and I have a dana 70 with 4:56's(the one I talked about on the groung)But If it was a 10.25/Sterlin would the Dana 70 bolt right into it's place? What does the 410 stand for behind the Ford oval stamping?

:D After alot of digging around the axel code#65 on a 1985 F350 4X4 Dually is for a 10.25 Ford rear with 4.10's.That's probaly why the Dana 70 I have out on the groung look's alot differant from the rear in the truck with the blowing ring, and pinion.Thank's for the reply though.Heath
