Shackle Flip How Much Lift?

im interested in doing a shackle flip in the rear on both my 77 and 79 to gain some lift.... how much lift will i gain my doing this flip?? 1"? im already tucking 35s and 36s, i just want to go with more height. i plan on just zipping off the factory rivets and just flipping the bracket and shackles.... as far as re attaching them to the frame, im planning on just using grade 8 bolts of the same size as the rivets, please inform me if this is the proper way of doing this. also i am wondering if there are any big downfalls to doing this bracket flip??? i cant think of any unless i was looking at steep driveline angles, which i dont believe i am..... thanks alot

i think around 5 inches.i'd guess maybe driveline angles too.alot of folks have done it and i was just reading about it at http://www.73-79ford...om/Techtalk.htm

Highboy is correct... with stock springs in good shape, you should get around 5" of lift. Believe it or not, the driveline angle will actually be pretty good, you may need to correct slightly with shims, I have seen all three possibilities with shims (none, wedge to the back, and wedge to the front) it will be a matter of install and measure.

i understand that the 44 and 9" cant take the tire size.... i would run the 35s i have now on that set up and do the flip then get the 60/70 setup installed then get big ol tires.....

Actually the 9" is pretty strong and will hold up to large tires. The D44 is weak due to the u-joints. Your D60/70 idea is the way to go just a spendy conversion in just wheels, tires, gears, lockers and 4 link suspension.
Lifting the front 5" might require a special driveline from http://highangledriveline.com/ due to the angle when the suspension drops. Its usually not a problem unless you jump your rig. Jack up the front bumper until the tires come off the ground and see if the driveline still turns when you're finished.

YOU CAN DO AN EASY LIFT ON THE REAR OF YOUR TRUCK WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY FOR NEW SPRINGS AND BLOCKS. HOW YOU DO IT FIRST OFF YOU MUST GO THROUGH ALL JACKING UP THE TRUCK AND THE SAFETY STUFF TOO. DON'T WANT THE TRUCK FALLING DOWN ON TOP OF YOU "NOT GOOD"! THAT AND I DON'T WANT YOUR WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND COMING AFTER ME. JUST KIDDING, ANY WAYS BACK TO THE BUSINESS AT HAND FIRST OF ALL YOU MUST REMOVE THE REAR PART OF THE SPRING FROM THE SHACKLE AND THEN AFTER YOU DO THAT, YOU NEED TO TAKE A TORCH AND CAREFULLY CUT THE HEADS OFF THE RIVETS. THEN YOU WILL NEED A LONG PUNCH TO DRIVE OUT THE RIVETS.
ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THIS YOU WILL NEED TO DRILL OUT THE RIVET HOLES WHICH ARE 7/16" HOLES TO 1/2" HOLES. ALSO ON THE BRONCO THE REAR SHACKLE MOUNT BRACKET MUST BE MOVED FORWARD 1 1/2" INCHES OR YOU WILL NOT GET THE RIGHT SPRING SHACKLE TRAVEL.
