I noticed that one of the vendors over on Bronco Graveyard has an entire fiberglass "tub" for '70's Broncos. Has anyone heard of a fiberglass bed - body sides, fenderwells and the bed itself - being offered which would fit a '78F-150?
Mine was doing real well until a %@&!@@%$ came out of a sidestreet and wiped out my right reat quarter and the rear bumper. I'm having a hard time finding body parts. The left side was starting to rust through over the wheel anyways, so I thought to myself - self, why not just replace the whole dang bed with glass and eliminate future rust problems?
Suggestions???

Not to be a downer- but if you had been in a wreck with a fiberglass bed you would have quickly realized- it cracked and fell off. That's only one of a million reasons that fiberglass sucks. Next in line is tryin' to paint the sh**. That's like pulling teeth sometimes. Obviously- metal bends and flexes- fiberglass don't and often cracks with rigorous use. Carbon fiber is a little more forgiving as far as flexibility, but until lately the prices on carbon fiber items is fairly high. Originally the bed of a Ford pickup was heavy steel and mine was galvanized (not sure if that's a factory idea or not). So in all I guess it depends on how heavy your useage is. If you plan to ever haul engines and heavy furniture, etc. I'd recommend steel. As for bed sheetmetal or fiberglass there are lots of places that specialize in these type items, especially steel inner/outer bedsides. I can quote one place that sells the longbed outer bedside in steel for $250.00 If you want more help Email Shawn at: [email protected] and I'll help out with what I can.[COLOR=blue]

To aid in the repair of your bed, you can use a bed from several years and just replace the bed sides. You can use a Ford bed up to 1996. The bolt holes match perfectly. Like I said you will only have to replace the bed sides. It looks like you would have had to do that anyway. Using a later model bed will aid in the cancer problems of the mid to late 70s. :D/
