I have a 1975 F-150 that i have rebuilt from ground up in 1999 until this point it has performed flawlessly! This truck takes severe abuse during hunting season here in florida, and it has never let me down. It has a fully rebuilt 360,electronic ingnition, holley 500,dana 44 in front from a 79 with ARB, 9inch rear with a detroit locker, 4.56 gears, rolling on 38-12.50 super swamper TSL tires, shortened frame with a 103" wheelbase, with a custom made flatbed, this truck is one tough customer and i am very proud of it,all the work was done myself. I am not a mechanic by trade but iv,e been building 4x4s with my buddies since i was 16. My problem is i keep getting rear axle seal leaks since last year i have replaced seals, bearings twice, axles are still in good shape, the housings are clean and smooth, the strange part is if i drive it often the leaks seem to go away but if i let it sit for awhile like during the summer when i,m not hunting it will leak like a sive while it just sits. its driving me crazy. I,d like to know if anybody has experienced this before, or has any ideas. THANKS!!!

I had the same problem with an 82 ford F-150. An old man told me that the housings had been egged shaped so the bearings will not seal. He told me it was from hauling allot of heavy stuff and using too big of a tire. Dont know if this is your problem but i hope this helps.

i had the same problem after changing a set of axles,i found the problem one very simple to fix. when you bolt the axle back in on the plate you have 4 bolts that go threw the mounting plate on the plate there is a groove the groove i have know idea for the purpose but it has got to go up when mounting the axle. i hope this will help
