I'm not sure if your going to change the 80's model to a 4x4 or the older one, but I have a freind that turned his 2wd 87 into a 4x4. he said it was pretty easy, mostly just a bolt up. he took the front ttb front end off of a 4x4 and it bolted right into the same place the ttb off of the 2wd did. As far as the tranny, he had an auto, and all that he had to do was have the tail shaft mechined on the automatic tranny, pull the transfer case, and tranny mount off the 4x4 and bolt it up, now I'm not sure if there is a crossmember change from the 2wd, or 4x4, but I don't remember him saying anything about that part. But he seemed to really injoy the truck after all the work. hope this helps
