Here goes. I purchased a 77 f-250 2wd in great shape.project truck for me and my son. It has 351C heads on what appears to be a 351M....or is it a 400? Would the heads from a 351 fit on the 400? I know (I think )that they are changable between the 335 serries motors but can they fit on the 400 since the 351M and 400 are the same block? Is there any advantage of having the 351C 2V heads on a "M"?

Has anyone turned a 2wd into a 4wd? I have a 77 250 highboy (good running gear, rusted body). Is it possible to do a front and rear axle swap, transfer case, and some linkage and be on my way? I would think all the spots to put things would be there. A few people I have talked to say they would just swap the body and motor and trans......looks like a bigger pain in the asterisk to do that. I can cut and weld but I haven't messed with electrical or plumbing before. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

Good News/Bad News
Looks like the heads are 351M as well, so that part of the question is answered but I still need help determining if I can just swap running gear or if that's too much of a headache. ANY response would be appreciated!!!

Thanks
Steve

the only thing is when you switch a 2wd to a 4x4, you have to be able to mount the front axle exactely where it should be.Also a 2wd frame is not as strong as a F250 frame.it would be easier to just switch the bodies out. you can put a topi into the tech part to find out more about the heads of a 351c onto a 400.

you can also go to fordtrucks.com and their is a section just for the 351m/400 motors.also the only thing differant between the 351m/400 is the pistons and crank.

if the electrical and lines are the reason you won't swap bodies then don't mess with a 4wd swap.
swap the bodies,it's alot easier.

The 2 V heads are the same on the 351C/351M/400 the difference in the 400 is the stroke of the crank . So there is no advantage to useing 351C (1970 - 1974) on a 351M other than it will cost you more to have them rebuilt the pre 73 heads were for leaded gas so youll have to have hard seats put in . :D
