i did an axle swap on an 89 and we used a dana 44 out of a 76 bronco. the axle fit perfectly, and perfoms well at the truck pulls.

The dana 44 is the correct axle to use but not out of a 76 bronco they are to narrow you actually need one out of a full size pickup or a 78 or 79 bronco.

are you sure that the axle is to narrow?!? i have a 9" skyjacker lift on the truck, and the whole front is oned up. the springs are not angled, and the tires do not rub anything, except the radius arms. the only thing that we had troble was addapting the paralellagram steering components the the stock steering box. you may be right in the width, but like i said, we had no problems.

Yes Im sure about the 76 bronco axle but that axle will fit under a ranger have done that one several times without cutting. The ranger and the 77and older broncos are the same width, the 78 andd newer bronco were based on the f150 chassis which is wider by a couple of inches
