have a machine shop run the block numbers they will know and a 429 does not interchange with that family group would have to make some transmission changes to do so

the 360 had fair torque ratings and had heavy duty internal components for truck use even though the 390 had better horsepower for performance, it just depends on youre wheelin environment or what you want to do. i dont think that you can go wrong with either one.

he only difference between the 360 and the 390 that i know of is the crank and the rods. The 360 has a short throw with the crank compared to the 390 and it makes the piston travel up with long rods. The 390 has short fat rods. I have seen alot of the 360's come apart because they break a rod.

hey bud, i had a 390 in a 79 bronco that i put in myself. i had the same issue and i discovered that if you take the trans off, take the flywheel off there will be a casting # that will tell you what you have. the 352 stamp on the front right side under the head is typical on all of these blocks. if you find that # on the back of the block it will allow you to find out. good luck! great motor! i liked mine.
