Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a 1981 Ford F-350 4/4, according to the seller, the truck sat for 1 year. I put in 5 gallons of gas in tank number 1 because it was empty and drove it about 3 miles to a 4/4 terrain and just before crossing a creek the truck shut off on me, luckly my son found the switch to switch tanks and I was able to turn it on again an cross the creek but right after the truck shut off again... to make the story short, a so called mechanic helped me to replace mechanical fuel pump and the selenoid in the middle of the tanks with no luck, we even put gas in the carburator and still did not work. Finally here comes the question, I paid 800.00 for the truck plus 460.00 for title transfer and other penalties, I havent really test the truck fully. Is it worth putting more money in the truck or sell it?, someone offered me 2500.00 for the truck already, but I am a very honest person and don't want to sell something that may not be worth that money.
Please advise me, I do not know anything about trucks and I am not mechanically inclined.
Thanks.

avalen- if you really like the truck then keep it, they are not that hard to work on when compared to the newer models, you can do the basic stuff yourself and its something that you and your son probably can do together. as far as the truck, start with maybe getting a haynes or chilton manual at a local part store (i prefer chilton, i think they have more info). you may want to start looking at the battery terminals, they maybe loose or corroded and may need replacing. also it may need a new set of plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. or it may have collected moisture. you may want to tune it up anyway along with new terminals. the tune up would take care most of the suspected areas where there maybe a problem. you can also replace the fuel filter that is located in front of carb. since it has been sitting for a year it may have picked up some trash when you started it. what size motor is it?

Like 400 said if both tank fail (or seem to ) It could be filters or even the carb may be gummed up for bad gas or dirt in General

Check lines for holes then take line front pump to carb off and have some one crank it (carefulL) And see if pushing gas .
But not running while putting gas in carb sound like that where may be . But check for gas to carb and check for spark .

Good luck we want to here what was.

As for selling it . Go for it . Its up to them to check out before sale (Start it )
Parts is parts
