Hey guys, I got my step dads 90 f-150 4x4, 302 5-speed. I bought the haynes manual and talked to a few guys at work about this, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around how the "quick-connect" hydraulic line actually attaches, and therefore, how it unattatches. The Haynes manual shows a guy pokin at it with a screwdriver, but does say there is a tool.

My real question here is, what am I supposed to poke? Is it the white plastic ring thing? And if so, what's the strategy here? I just don't get it.

I've been lookin at the new concentric slave cylinder and tryin to wrap my head around it for a week. I just don't see how it does it's thing. This is gonna be easy right? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Oh, yeah. Also the speedo aint workin. It kinda bobs a little while I'm drivin. Is the speedo gear driven?

I dont have a '90's ford truck but i'll try to help. i'm thinking that the white plastic ring should slide up to release the hose. have you tried this? as far as the speedo, i think that the cable has to be replaced, my bronco bobs a little and i was told it was the cable. if 'lostin90s' logs in he could probably tell you more.

So when you say "slide up" do you mean for me to push the white plastic ring deeper into the body of the slave cylinder?

I found this illustration when i googled ford clutch coupling tool or somethin like that. The pic even shows the tool being used and arrows and all, but i just aint gettin it right. Maybe mine is too boogered up. When i try to push it "into" the slave and pull the line out, it doesn't go to far in before it wants to be gouged by the screwdriver. I ordered the tool off ebay for 4 bucks. I guess i can wait a couple days for that rather than accidentally destroyin the ring.

Am I gettin the theory right though? Push the white ring further into the reciever lookin part of the slave? Will that click open some lockin mechanizm? Sorry to come off so stupid in this one, I usually do pretty well, but this "quick release" thing is funkin me up.

Yes, slide up into slave cylinder and pull the line out, but since you've ordered the tool, you might want to wait and do it the right way. (dont want to mess anything up). Your theory, i think is right because judging by the pic, i thought the same thing.
