Hello All
I Have an 88 390 F250 4x4 with a 5 speed manual.
My syncros on 3rd and reverse have blown and I need to swap out trannys.
I can get hold of a rebuilt manual and xfer case from an 89 ranger that had a 2.9 litre engine (V6 ??)
My question is:
Can I bolt the ranger tranny to my 390 f-250 bell-housing ?, I doubt that the 390 bell-housing will match the 2.9l one.
Is the ranger transfer case interchangeable with the F-series.( I had and 86 Ranger and it had full size running gear)
The scrap yards are closed here for Easter holiday, so I cant ask them.
Thank for thinking about this one.
Steve.

First off the 390 was not original to an 88 f250 so it was either swapped in or you have your numbers wrong, f250's came with 4.9 (300) 5.0 ( 302) 5.8 (351) and 7.5 (460)
the 390 is an FE block used in the 60's and 70's and will only bolt up to a trans with an FE pattern bell housing.
however if your manual trans both have removable bell housings then you can just swap the main guts of the trans.
what you really need to do is look up the type of trans and t-case coming from the ranger and see if its specs are up to what you need and if so then you can just swap the trans and tcase as a complete unit.
