i have a 96 f150 eddie bauer i bought last year had only 56,000 orginal miles had to fix vacum leaks,fuel pump on front gas tank,plugs,wires,flushed radiator and trans all orginal. the antifreeze was a nasty orange i put a backflush kit on it to clean system out,put repair kit in to fix broken overflow hose connecter at rad cap. the guage will go towards hot if hard on gas or climbing hills but will go back to normal as soon you let off gas truck has a 5.0 4r70w,4x4 trans, a/c and a orginal 1core rad ive changed tstat

i would check and make sure you have flow in the radiator because you could have a clog somewhere down the lines from settlement from the block thats a good place to start
