I've heard good from both makers. Hooker's are more $$ then hedman. The hedman's i've used on my other trucks no complaints about them.

with those summit headers does anyone recommend coating them with the heat shield spray. i know there are some that you have to "burn" for the coating to adhere and work, but others to simply spray on. does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these? if they work, it would seem pointless to pay almost twice as much for a coated header.

stay the hell away from any Flowtech headers (jc whitney specails) we had to notch the frame and undo the motor mounts to rock the engine, just to install them. i would reccomend the 2 that you already named....

Headers (I'm sorry to say) are F**king bad news-- unless you have a heat holding coating (like a jet-hot powder coat, etc.)or wrap on them you're gonna' spend money on warped valves (from the engine cooling down fast and unevenly) and possibly other valve train parts. That's why the factory uses cast iron (it cools slower and more even). Cast iron headers are cool, but cast iron is brittle and easier to crack when hot than steel. The best idea would be cast tubes to avoid warpage at the block into steel pipes-- Is this dream humanly possible? Super headers? (GO ahead patent my idea-- make a buck-- make me good headers!)
