I took my 85 out the other day and played in the mud with it a little bit. I have only done this twice since I bought the truck but I have noticed both times that the motor seems to get unusually muddy. Is this just the way ford designed the engine compartment or is there supposed to be some sort of a mud flap underneath like my cherokee had. Also if anyone has rigged a flap for there bronco let me know how you did it or send me pics.

Are you're inner fenders on the truck? If not it's coming from the front of the engine, under the radiator not sure what you can do about that.

Yah that inner fenders are on there. I probably hit the puddles a little faster then I shoulda but it still seems just to dirty for the little bit that I done with it. I remember taking my cherokee out before I had the lift in it and just giving it through deep holes having wather splash everywhere, and even after my little mud flap came off I never had that much dirt and mud on my motor. Broncos and cherokees are 2 different worlds though so Im probably wrong for even comparing them.

alot of the mud and water gets slung around under your hood by the fan. If you do away with the fan for elc. fans so you can turn them off when in deep mud/water will solve alot of the mud/water slungg under the hood.

I had this problem and went with electrics and now the engine compartment is clean but on hot days or on the freeway she would heat up. The bad thing about electric fans is they only run at one speed. This keeps up with trail driving or slow going roads. A mechanical fan will turn as fast as the engine so it can keep up with the heat and high RPM's. A clutch fan always heps but you will still sling mud.
So I run electrics in the winter with the cold air and deep mud and run mechanical in hot summer. Although I still see lots of mud here in Washington durring summer but what can I do but get in it?

yeah dude you cant really compare the bronco to a cherokee. the cherokee is tightly packed with engine. the bronco has more space around to get mud in. as long as it isnt getting in the intake i wouldnt really worry about it.
