Hey i am 16 and i am really interested in buying a Early Bronco, but i have been told that it is almost to much of hassle because of the many problems they have. I am looking for sumtin that isnt to big but sumthin i can still go muddin in and have a fun time in it, i really like the body style of the early broncos and the size and it seems like a easy car that you could customize yourself. If you have any helpful suggestions or information on early broncos (like year, model, etc., or and other type of vehicle that u think fits this description.

I like the 1968 Bronco because it doesn't have the sway bars and a few other options that aren't needed. The 66-77 Bronco doesn't have that many problems if you get one that in good shape to start out with. A rust bucket can always cause problems. I've had my 68 for 7 years with no real problems. Although I keep modifying it before anything breaks. The best part is there are many upgrades and kits available to modify the rig like you want it. Do a search on the web for 66-77 Broncos and you will come across enough sites to blow you away. Then you will get the "bronco maddness" and can't stop. When buying you should always look for rust under the floor boards (lift the carpet or mats). You want a Dana44 front axle with the disc brakes on it. The rear already has a 9" so you are good there. Get a 289, 302 or 351 engine, no V6. Don't worry about the lift kit thats on it becasue you can get a 3.5" James Duff kit cheap and have a nice ride. Rancho is a bad choice (very stiff ride and no flex) Wild Horses is OK and BC Broncos sells a nice kit. If its got good paint tap with your knuckle down the body and listen for bondo sounds (firm non hollow sound) you will know when you hear regular sheet metal as you're tappin. Or get a magnet, I got one from a fish store with soft brushes on one side so it doensn't scratch paint when moving it around (used for cleaning aglea off fish tanks, one on each side of tank). Also look for a bronco that has the 3 or 4 speed on the floor instead of 3 on the tree (shifting on the steering collum) you don't want that. Auto is is ok but I like manual myself.
Then make sure you have power steering that works well. Hopefuly you can turn the steering wheel back and forth with the truck running but not moving. Driveline u-joints should be changed when you get a new truck so you know they are good. Could eliminate some vibration problems. If you want it for off road, get some lockers and regear the ring and pinion since you will want larger tires. Ahhhh I'm tired of typing now...

im a 16 year old guy that got 1 several months ago and yes it took work but any 30 year old vehicle takes work but its all worth it in the end write me back and ill tell u some places to get 1

you should get a cheap little suzuki from like the 90's, if u can find one in good condition, there pretty cheap and there fun as hell offroad

those suzukis are pretty fun, but dont have to power for mud my dad has one great short wheel base for rock crawling but really slow down highway, also kinda cramp. I have a 69 bronco with 5.5 in lift, so much fun for bogging and rock crawling, oh and my daily driver is a 94 bronco also lots of fun, but now got the 69 to take off roading. the 69 has taken lots of work and money but well worth how much fun ill have with it

I'm with KtomeK... GO FOR THE BIG BRONCO!!! I have had big and small trucks, but nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to my 88 Full Size Bronco (this statement has not been evaluated by the FDA nor is it intended to say that my bronco is better than everyone else's...i.e. look at oscar's kleidsdale)

hahaha!! But you can't fit a large bronco down most of the trails due to being too wide. Unless you don't mind body damage then you can bash your way thru.

In my own opinion.. If he is looking for mud/rocking.. or just a general fun truck.. doesnt sound like its going to be a dd.. so the body part im sure he wouldnt be worried about.. Get a big bronc and put er to the floor.
