Hi all!

I am preparing to rbuild my '95 injected 460 with 4wd. I have a large oil consumption problem , so I figure its time to rebuild. ( about 2 quarts per usage of dual tanks approx 250 miles). I don;t leave an oil cloud, but I am using it. I know BB use oil, but I think this is an excessive amount.

I figure to put performance parts on to increase HP and hopefully overall performance. I still want to use pump gas, but I hope to stay at least at the 10 mpg rate I am at. It seems to me that more hp might get me better mpg since the truck is 8800 lbs. Might work less :D and it doesn't hurt to have more hp. Truck is still totally stock, in fact, almost all are factory original parts on it, besides battery, a belt tensioner, pulgs, wires, tires etc. (ya know, regular maintenance items.) I have 106 K on her now!! Its a work, farm, daily driver, move what ever I want truck.

First question I have is am I going in a wrong direction in changing a great truck!!!!????
Should I stay stock??? or should I use the technology we have now to improve on a really good truck, maybe making it a great ( super ) truck?

Stock rebuild I'm okay, I can handle that. But performance wise, I am not sure what to do. I can bore .30 over and stroke it. make it about a 502. Add aluminum heads, port and polish, lunati crank, bigger cam and roller rockers, bigger and better valve train and I have about 600 to 700 hp motor.
Examples of some of the questions I have are like what size valves, 2.20 for intake and 1.76 for exhaust or am I going to big? Do I need to go roller rockers or not?

I want a good stout motor that will last, am I wrong with going with the technology we have to build a really good motor? I am afraid of losing value on this truck since it was the last of the big blocks made and put into the truck ( 12 of 95). Or will this make any difference at all????!!!

Everybodies and anybodies input will help me decide what to do. It's a conundrum of questions that I need to workt thru and I don't know where to begin!!!

Thanks Charlie

Whoops... I just realized I posted in the wrong section Sorry!

I have a 78 460 all complete on a stand. I have been thinking of doing the same thing but gas has gotten out of control. If I had a clean 78 or 79 bronco I would definitely use then. I would be curious to know how much a mild build would cost. Aprox 400 to 450 hp on pump gas should not be that difficult. Headwork, compression and cam should not be that radical to achieve my goals. At least a torque monster with 9.5 compression and great flowing heads. I have heard that a 460's timing is retarded and that keeps them bogged down. Ceejay, I will be keeping an eye on this post for for info. Welcome the the forum. I am kind of new myself to this one...David
