I would recommend trying Bruce Horkey's Wood and Parts.
http://www.horkeyswo...s.com/index.htm
They don't have parts listed for the 79's, but they do have for box sides up to 1972 and they also have from 1980-1987 step side short boxes. They will custom build whatever you need though.
I have a '79 step side, and I put a box off of an '84 step side shorty, and other than the more squared off fenders (which I now like better) there seems to be hardly any difference.
I did have to refabricate the gas door filler to the rear of the fender though, nice thing about fiberglass.
Otherwise, one of my pals went and cut off the top rail where it was rust free (about 3 inches from the top rail) and then he cut a piece of 1/4 inch or so thick sheet panel steel and basically cut it using the old side as a template and the slowly stitch welded it across the panel. You would never know he did it once he ground it down and painted it up.
Just a few thoughts off the top of my head. If you know of any good sites for step side parts, please pass them along. Thanks.

Build it.
Beat on it.
Break it.
Build it better.
P.S. Starting fliud is NOT a viable alternative to nitrous.
