I have a 96 ford f-150 with a 4 inch rancho lift and 33 in by 12.5 in wide tires. I have replaced the wheel bearings at least 8 or 9 times in less than a year. Im fairly new at replacing them and using a haynes manual as a reference. Im torqing the inner spindle nut to 35 ft lbs backing of a quater turn and torqing the outer nut to 175 ft lbs. Im definatly getting the pressed in seal all the way flush but im not shure about the one that goes on the spidle. Im getting periodic metal on metal noises. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you correct it?

Sounds to me like you are tightening your bearings TOO MUCH. The manual you are useing--could be giveing you the wrong torque specificiations. Bearings, in good shape, greased and kept out of mud and water will give you alot better service then what you are getting. I have done things but the manual and messed up big time. I even read ijn a manual about rebuilding a engine one time. They never mentioned about putting in the oil pump. Blunders are made. Check the tightness in your bearings. Sounds like you are over tightening them and make sure you get a good grease to lube them before you put them in.
