if anyone would be so kind as to tell me how to drop a distributer in a engine that dosent have one in it at all is it is a 74 390 if you could please give me detailed instruction it would be mutch appreciated thanks!

Using a chilton guide or similar, find #1 cylender. Manually rotate engine so #1 in TDC. Drop the distributor in place so the rotor lines up with the plug wire on the dist. cap for #1. When you crank the engine, #1 should be the first plug to fire. As long as the plug wires are in the right places on the cap you should be good. If you get nothing out of the engine, pull the dist. out and manually rotate the engine untill #1 comes to TDC again. Repete your steps. It is hard to tell if you are on a compression/power stroke or exhaust/intake stroke.
