My C6 is showing signs of impending failure and Im thinking of trying for better gas mileage.Im sure its possible to put in an AOD transmission but first, which one would be best and would I need to change columns or would it be better to install a floor shifter?Any advice is appreciated.

You could check out a tranny from a late 80s lincoln, or mustang, I have an AOD out of an 89 LSC and I know that tranny is not shifted by the computer. It works off the detent cable, which is absolutly detrimental to have adjusted properly or else you can fry the tranny in a heartbeat. Anyway that tranny should work with any SB Ford. I would go with a floor shifter due to having to deal with fabricating linkage to adapt to the column shift, floor shifter would be easier. Anyway, I hope that helps--------Jack
