I have a 90 f-150, the trans. has been working fine until now. But now you have to manually pull the shifter down to 1st to make it pull off. Then after about 3 times it will pull off in drive. It kind of acts like it is trying to start off in 2nd gear. Any helpfull ideas will be very welcomed.

It was real dark. When I changed the filter. It smelled a little burnt too.

You may have an overheated tranny caused probably by band failure. Might want to have it checked professionally just to be sure.
