I recently bought a 1976 F-100 Ranger. The owner said he had traded a four-wheeler for the truck with hopes to restore, but has not had the time to do anything about it. He says the previous owner told him (he thinks) that it had a 351W put in and changed from 3-speed man. to a c-4 automatic. How can I tell what motor is in this truck with out pulling it a part?

I'll get you a link that I know of that has alot of info on the 351's. I know that it talks alot about the 351C and the 351M......not to sure about the Windsor but thru process of elimination if it's not one of those 2 it's a Windsor. If you want to make sure the transmission is a C4 you can go to www.lmctruck.com and look at the online catalog, just after the index it shows you what's what and you can go to where the axles and determine what axles it has as well.
Good Luck

Lots of info here. This is the most indepth site I've seen. There's some good pics showing the diff between the 351's. This site helped me determine that I have a 351M. Now I have to figure out if the 351C heads that I have on it are helping, hurting, or no big deal.......oh and if it's a 351M or a 400 since they use the same block.....good times.
Good Luck, hope this helps.
